Google Drive & Salesforce Integration

Overview:

Google Drive Integration is the answer for organizations that regularly have large files they need to save. Through this integration you can access files saved in your Google Drive. There are two file sharing types that determines how files within Google Drive will be stored to be shared within Salesforce. Copy creates a copy of the external file in Salesforce. Even when a file is not shared with a user through the external repository, when it is shared within Salesforce they are able to access it. Reference creates a reference to the files in the external repository, so only people who have access to the file in the external repository can see the file in Salesforce. Reference allows you to maintain the default security you've put into place regarding access to files, so generally this is the preferred sharing type.

Problem:

A company I was consulting with was experiencing issues with storage within their organization. The type of company they are, they tend to store large files often. Their Salesforce organization just did not have the capacity for their files, and they did not want to go over budget by purchasing more space through Salesforce.

Solution:

After identifying the needs of the company and and conducting research, I determined a Google Drive integration would meet their needs. This solution reduces costs, is efficient, provides real-time synchronization, and high data security. You can't beat that! Based upon the structure of the organization, reference was selected as the file sharing type. This selection allows the company to keep files on a need too know basis, while still getting the extra storage space Google Drive provides. Once the integration was complete, the company was immediately able to access files from Google Drive through their Salesforce.org as if they were native files!
